giardino dei tarocchi

Tarot Garden

The Tarot Garden: one of the wonders of Capalbio Located on the hillock of Garavicchio, near the border with Lazio in the maieutic village of Capalbio, is the Tarot Garden: one of the most beautiful and evocative open-air art museums in the entire Grosseto Maremma. It is a singular complex, inspired by Antoni Gaudì’s Park Guell in Barcelona and the mysterious figures of the tarot. This fascinating and mysterious monumental garden was conceived and created by the artist Niki de Saint-Phalle in collaboration with Jean Tinguely and other internationally renowned artists. The Tarot Garden is located on the area where a former stone quarry once stood on the estate of the Caracciolo family. The 22 major arcana are represented in the garden park. La Saint Phalle, by constructing his esoteric walk, wanted to reflect on the archetypal, fantastic and mysterious world of tarot cards, giving man a new chance to understand the meaning of his existence. An extraordinary philosophical journey in which nature and art blend together, creating an unexpected reality bordering on fairytale, in which to reflect on the bond that unites us with the universe. The Tarot Garden with its gigantic multicolored sculptures that rise majestically among the hedges and trees represent one of the most particular museum forms there is and is considered one of the most important examples of environmental art in Italy. Information Access to the Tarot Garden is allowed from mid-May to the second decade of October from 2.30pm to 7.30pm every day except Sundays and national holidays. Tarot Garden Foundation locality. What a great find! An all-Italian Barcelona in the sense that you can breathe Gaudì and it is all concentrated in a very pleasant natural location. Crazy, better in the sun. Go before opening to be able to enjoy everything with as few people as possible: too many visitors do not allow you to enjoy the visit to the fullest.

Interesting and fascinating place. It is a mix between Gaudi and the monster park of Bomarzo near Viterbo. I recommend visiting it to spend at least an hour of relaxation between the Tuscan countryside and art. Everything is well organized including the parking lot well connected by the Aurelia state road a stone's throw from Capalbio!
