Argentario

Santo Stefano and its beaches: Cala Piccola, Cala del Gesso and La Cacciarella Santo Stefano is undoubtedly the most important center of the entire Argentario promontory as the main tourist port and main communication route with the famous Giglio Island. There are thousands of tourists and more who flock to this colorful port city to spend incredible holidays by the sea. Santo Stefano is famous for its particular beaches, mainly for its exclusive coves, small paradises hidden between the rock and the sea, reachable both on foot but above all by boat. Cala Piccola It is located in the immediate vicinity of Porto Santo Stefano and is a beach, as its name suggests, very small, but extremely loved above all by scuba diving and snorkeling enthusiasts. Thanks to its jagged seabed rich in ravines and small caves, Cala Piccola reveals to its visitors all the naturalistic marine wonder of the Argentario. Furthermore, right in front of this small strip of sand, pebbles and rocks, stands the famous Scoglio del Corallo, also well known by those who love to discover the varied seabed of this extraordinary stretch of coast. Reaching Cala Piccola is quite simple as it is well marked with various indications already from the port of the country. Cala del Gesso Reaching this place is much more challenging than other Argentario beaches, but once you reach your destination you will realize that the wonder that awaits you repays abundantly for the effort made. Along the panoramic road up to km 5.9 on the right begins a narrow road called via dei Pionieri, at the end of which there is a pedestrian gate beyond which an asphalted path of over 700 meters opens. Once you get here, what separates you from Cala del Gesso is only a steep descent of steps, but once you reach the end you will find yourself in front of one of the most suggestive beaches of the Argentario. The typical grains of sand leave room for small pebbles and it has a sea so transparent that you can easily see its bottom perfectly. Our advice is to come to this little paradise prepared. As for Cala Piccola, also in Cala del Gesso, there are no establishments, so bring a towel, comfortable shoes, water and various provisions. Considering the rather bumpy path, it is not recommended to go up from Cala del Gesso in the hottest hours, moreover, this beach is not suitable for both small children and the elderly. In front of this dream place is the Islet of Argentarola, a huge boulder that seems to float on the water, while behind the beach, sharpening your view, you will see the remains of an ancient watchtower. The Cacciarella Santo Stefano beach known as Cacciarella is located just outside the town, along the famous panoramic road. This beautiful beach is located between two steep cliffs and is characterized by sand that is not too fine and by wonderful backdrops that deserve long dives armed with fins and snorkels. The cove is sheltered from the wind and this makes it an ideal destination for boats which, especially in the summer months such as July and August, choose it as a stop for mooring in their tours to discover the Argentario. Along this paradisiacal beach there are no establishments so you have to bring with you everything you need for a day at the beach. In addition, the Cacciarella is accessed via a steep path of about 400 meters, often not too easy to walk if you have small children or elderly people. On the east side there is the entrance to the Grotta dei Turchi which, despite a narrow opening, is instead very large inside and fabulous to visit especially for snorkelers. Furthermore, in front of the Cacciarella, lying on its seabed, there is the statue of Christ the Redeemer, who seems to guard and protect the bathers with his serious and vigilant gaze.

The Argentario beach known as Cala del Gesso is a corner of paradise absolutely to visit, crystal clear water, the path to get there is challenging but not impossible, you need an umbrella and sunscreen as well as water and food if you intend to stay all day since there are no services, but it is absolutely worth a visit.
