Castiglione della Pescaia, old village panoramic view. Maremma Tuscany, Italy

Castiglione della Pescaia

Magnetic and fascinating, the seaside village of Castiglione della Pescaia is everything you are looking for in a typically Italian seaside resort. Crystal clear sea, golden yellow beaches and a maniacal trend for a refined good taste: Castiglione is a beloved jewel of the Tuscan Maremma, located in the province of Grosseto. Its nightlife is a siren song for anyone who loves to have fun while maintaining a slightly retro class and elegance that never goes out of style. With its pastel colors, Castiglione della Pescaia is a natural and historical-artistic paradise for thousands of tourists from all over the world who choose it for its rocky beaches and its glamorous shops. Founded by the Pisans in the 10th century, Castiglione has lived through different eras with ups and downs; from the black plague that decimated the population to the invasions of the Spanish pirates who sowed chaos in the main port cities until it reached its maximum splendor when it passed under the control of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany. Homeland of myths and legends, but above all a land of art and culture that over the years has attracted various personalities from the entertainment world with its chic and vintage look, from Oscar winner Robert de Niro to great writers such as Italo Calvino, which according to some stories was inspired by the sunsets of Castiglione della Pescaia to write his “Paradise in Palomar”. A city of great charm, this location offers artistic and cultural ideas of rare beauty, including the Ximenes Red House which houses the Interactive museum created by Mizar, the agency for scientific dissemination; as well as the Isidoro Falchi Civic Archaeological Museum located in the hamlet of Vetulonia where over seven hundred years of history are the protagonists of the exhibition. In the area that connects Castiglione della Pescaia with Grosseto there is the natural reserve of Diaccia Botrona: a marshy area unknown to most that for centuries has played an extremely significant role in the evolution of the Maremma. An unusual world that has slowly transformed into a very rare ecosystem of unprecedented naturalistic value. Castiglione della Pescaia the Rocchette beach But how can you experience Castiglione without trying its sea: the Rocchette beach is undoubtedly one of the most popular places in the locality. It takes just 14 minutes by car (starting from the historic center) and you reach an earthly paradise embellished with fine sand and a cliff made of smooth rocks bathed by a crystalline sea. Umbrella, sunbed and all the benefits that come to mind are offered by the on-site bathing establishments, with attached secure parking and fish restaurants. The sand and the gently sloping seabed make the beach very suitable for children, which is why it is often popular with families. On the right end, however, you will also find some rocks from which you can dive without excessive practical difficulty, very common among the young people of the place. In this stretch of coast the sea is even clearer and deeper, suitable for snorkeling. Le baia is located in front of a centuries-old pine forest sheltered by the small promontory dominated by the Forte delle Rocchette, an ancient watchtower built in the 12th century. today privately owned. A dream place in which to relax and take a tan that is the envy of.

One of the most suggestive places that I have happened to see in the unfortunately short stay in the province of Grosseto. The place that most impressed me was the Diaccia Botrona Nature Reserve. It is worth visiting this splendid reserve, it impresses.

Castiglione della Pescaia is a truly fabulous, exclusive and elegant Maremma village. I went there on vacation with my partner in August and I fell in love with it. Especially exceptional is the Rocchette beach, a small piece of paradise on earth! Highly recommended!
