Garden of Daniel Spoerri

A small enchanted park designed and built on a vast property of over sixteen hectares, the mystical Garden of Daniel Spoerri is located halfway between the perched village of Seggiano and the small hamlet of Pescina. The multifaceted artist of Romanian nationality naturalized Swiss, arrived in the heart of the Tuscan countryside in the early 90s, after having lived for many years in the most important cities in the world including New York, Simi, Düsseldorf and Paris. Inspired by this land, his magical garden was born. For those who want to discover this fantastic place, to say the least, they must think that everything they will see is the result of the encounter and the clash between the reality of the place and the irrational inspiration of Spoerri, which has been formed over the years and in the his long wandering around the world. Inspired by the best known Sacro Bosco di Bomarzo or Garden of the Monsters, in the province of Viterbo, and fascinated by the natural beauties that attract him but what scares him, Daniel Spoerri has created this corner of paradise which is one of the most evocative representations of the so-called “Deceptions of Art”. The Spoerri garden was officially opened to the public in 1997 and can be visited from Easter to October. Inside the monumental park there are 113 works by 55 different artists and it has also been recognized for its artistic value by the Foundation of the Italian Ministry of Culture. Among the most evocative works present in the permanent exhibition of Daniel Spoerri’s Garden we find the iron origami of the Japanese Kimitake Sato, but also the installation “The Warriors of the Night” created by Spoerri himself in which four bronze soldiers are represented they rest in a pond. Another work of immense suggestion are “The mannequins”, also by Spoerri, seven bronze figures that recall the imaginative figures of the great painter Mirò, another very beautiful work is the “Dies irae – Jour de colére” signed by Olivier Estoppey which represents 160 large concrete ducks marching towards Seggiano, led by three immense drummers that exceed 3 meters in height. There are several places where art and nature intertwine in a sometimes fantastic way like in the Tarot garden (Capalbio), sometimes nicely horror like in the park of the Monsters of Bomarzo, sometimes with modern art installations like in Daniel's garden. Spoerri. I did not know this artist and his garden at all: during the visit I was surprised by the vastness of the park, by the originality of the works (by various artists besides Spoerri) and by the wisdom of their location. Walking in the park is very pleasant and every corner is enchanting. Highly recommended !!!

There are no words to describe this place ... WONDERFUL, SURREAL, FANTASTIC !!! Never seen such a thing. A unique place where those who enter it get lost and a child returns who finds himself playing with art installations in the midst of nature. Everyone should know and visit it at least once in their life!

Enthusiastic about the tarot park I looked for other examples of sculpture gardens. So I came across Daniel Spoerri's garden in Seggiano. A large estate in which to stroll, very few visitors for which peace and tranquility. More or less beautiful but still curious works. Perhaps the price is not very affordable. To be seen.
