Isola del Giglio

The island of Giglio and its beaches One of the most loved and appreciated destinations in the Grosseto Maremma is undoubtedly the small island of Giglio: an unprecedented naturalistic paradise that fascinates with its clear and clean water, its small hidden beaches overlooking the white cliffs of rock in which the luxuriant nature offers enchanting scents and images. This tour to discover the Giglio begins with the arrival at the Port of the Island: already when the ferry heads towards the shore, what opens in front of you is incredible. The colorful houses and the imposing stacks with the turrets will appear to you as a sort of pillars of hercules which, once passed, will lead you directly to paradise. Il Giglio is a summer destination par excellence, in fact the period in which we advise you to see it is precisely the one that runs from June to September. We warn you that precisely because of its beauty, this is a period in which the small island is particularly crowded and this could create some discomfort. But despite this, the island of Giglio has so many surprises in store for its visitors that it is very difficult to be disappointed. Giglio Island is divided into three inhabited areas: Giglio Porto, the first place you will see as it is here that all ferries and ships must necessarily stop, Giglio Castello which represents the upper part of the island where the ancient Rocca and finally Giglio Campese the most touristic wing as it mainly consists of a beach. But on the island of Giglio there is much more. The whole coast is full of coves and small beaches of unparalleled beauty, all different from them represent a real “amusement park” for all-round sea lovers. The best beaches on the island of Giglio For lovers of comfort or who prefer a beach more affordable for families with children, the beach of Giglio Campese is the one for you. Reachable either by renting scooters, bicycles or by bus that leaves from Giglio Porto; Campese beach is divided between a free area and a bathing establishment. What most fascinates those who visit it, in addition to the crystal clear water from which it is possible to admire the sandy bottom, are the beautiful sunsets that illuminate the stack red. A show for all photography enthusiasts, a romantic and unforgettable moment that makes even the coldest hearts tremble. For those who prefer a holiday dedicated to adventure, we cannot fail to recommend you to visit the Spiaggia delle Caldane and that of Cannelle: they represent an optimal solution also for families considering that despite being more complex to reach and less touristy than in Campese , thanks to a sandy bottom that slopes gently towards the open sea, even children can swim in absolute tranquility. In addition, both of these beaches are equipped with bars and catering services in which to refresh yourself. In the vicinity of these beaches there are also areas for practicing sports of various kinds. This is only one side of the coin of what the Giglio can offer you. The most hidden and in some ways most fascinating part of this island, on the other hand, is represented by its coves: small beaches that are difficult to reach and therefore less frequented, ideal for those looking for a valid alternative from the classic mass tourism. A beach that we absolutely recommend you visit is Cala dello Smeraldo. It can be reached by following the same road that leads to Cannelle, but it is a much wilder and much less frequented place. The water of this cove is so clear that unique plays of light are created on the seabed. The best time to enjoy this little corner of paradise is early in the morning, when the beach is still not crowded with the many visitors who have come here with their private boat. Another dream place is the Arenella beach, a small cove located north of Giglio Porto. A place much appreciated by trekking lovers who enjoy about 1 hour of walking in the wild nature of the island until reaching this sort of promised land like modern Indiana Jones. The Arenella beach is one of the smallest in the whole of Giglio Island and perhaps one of the most underrated. This place, on the other hand, is ideal for lovers of rocks and above all for those who appreciate snorkeling and want to discover the beauty of the island’s underwater fauna and flora. Another highly recommended cove is that of Alume, reachable via a path that is not particularly difficult, but which must be faced with suitable footwear and highly discouraged for those traveling with prams, children and the elderly. It is one of the most interesting beaches in the whole of Giglio thanks to its nature wild and unspoiled. The name of this place derives from the pyrite mine that once stood in this place and whose entrance is still visible today. For those who love diving, however, his place is at the Scoglio del Corvo, a small cove full of rocks covered with gorgonians and sponges in whose inlets, scorpion fish, moray eels and lobsters hide.

Hi everyone, I want to share my experience on the island of lily with you ...... it's been seven years that every summer, in addition to the usual holidays abroad, I leave a small space of time for my enchanted island! giglio is a tiny island in Tuscany and is composed of: giglio porto, giglio campese, giglio castello then there are the arenella beaches (my favorite), cinnamon and caldane! the ideal way to visit the island is in boat, in fact it has vast stretches of fantastic granite rock, but difficult to reach on foot, through long dirt paths difficult to identify! the island is very particular for its castle that stands at the top. certainly it is not a place for entertainment, there is no classic "nightlife", but to relax it is the ideal place!

I returned to Giglio after 30 years. I found it even more beautiful. Extraordinary sea. Very cordial islanders as I remembered. And then not just the sea. Walking through the narrow streets of Giglio Castello and enjoying the splendid views towards Corsica is an exciting experience. Do not miss the tour of the island by boat. And enjoy the wide Campese beach. You will live an unforgettable experience
